Youth Action Research Group

What is the Youth Action Research Group ?

The Youth Action Research Group (YARG) is made up of a small group of students and youth who are interested in carrying out research to guide policy decisions and programming that impacts students in YOUR schools. The YARG will bring the students’ and youths’ voice to the B2S initiative. The YARG will be comprised of approximately eight members representing and giving voice to youth in various City systems. There will be two seats for current SFUSD students, two seats for current CCSF students, two seats for youth involved in other City systems, and two seats at-large. This will be a space for gathering and sharing information, creating dialogue, and making recommendations to City leaders that can help your peers, siblings, and community succeed in school and graduate from college.

• Someone who can relate to students who are struggling in school and may not be college-bound
• Works well with youth and adults

What type of commitment do I have to make?

• Attend 6 to 8 meetings/trainings (Meetings/trainings will typically take place once every month. The first meeting will take place in May 2011)
• Participate in research projects
• Commit for at least one year

How do I apply?

• Be recommended by a teacher, community leader, or City leader
• Complete application YARG Application Form
• Submit application by April 29, 2011

Bridge to Success Overview

Bridge to Success is a partnership between the City of San Francisco, San Francisco Unified School District, City College of San Francisco, San Francisco State University and our community to double the number of youth who achieve college degrees and credentials. Research shows that 61% of the jobs in our state require a college credential but only 27% of SFUSD 9th graders are on track to earn one. That number is less than 10% of African American and Latino students. Together we must change that trajectory for all of our students if we want San Francisco to remain the vibrant, diverse and successful city it is today.
