FRISCO Day

What is FRISCO Day?

On Friday April 29th, all high school seniors from San Francisco’s public schools will participate in FRISCO Day (FRIday = Successful College Opportunities), an opportunity for students to enroll in college if they haven’t done so already, learn about financial aid and other support systems, and to build relationships with other students that help them complete the transition to college.   Click here for an article on the students who named FRISCO Day.

Seniors will be bussed to one of 4 locations: City College of San Francisco (CCSF) will host all students who are CCSF bound and all students who are not yet sure of their plans,  CSU bound students will go to SF State to learn about the CSU system, UC bound students will visit UCSF Mission Bay to learn about the UC system, and other 2 and 4 years public and private college bound students will visit the Fort Mason Conference Center for workshops from the College Bound Network.

What will students learn at FRISCO Day?

  • College knowledge.  We will teach students how to “work the college system”, exposing them to the ins and outs of how to get what they need during their college journey.
  • Persistence. Studies show that students who get a degree or certificate before the age of 26 will be self sufficient.  But sometimes life gets in the way of school and we want to teach students not to give up but to seek out resources to assist in their effort.
  • Options.  Students who do not yet have a plan will see the programs CCSF offers.  In today’s economy students need training and CCSF has more than 100 certificates to enter skilled jobs in the workforce and programs to transfer to 4 year universities.
  • Self advocacy skills.  Our ultimate goal is to guide your student to be an effective self-advocate for his or her education and future.

Why is it important?

As a hub of the new economy, San Francisco is a place where new industries thrive.  The future of San Francisco is dependent on preparing local youth for the type of jobs this new economy creates. There is a college option that will work for every graduating senior in San Francisco.  Thanks to FRISCO Day, students can learn about the options they have, and the supports they can access to make it happen. San Francisco is a city committed to progress and driving the economy of the future. An investment in education is an investment in the future of our city.  Better-educated citizens drive thriving industries and reinvestment.
